🌾 Empowering Punjab’s Farmers: CM Maryam Nawaz Unveils Historic Agriculture Reforms
Kalashah Kaku | May 15, 2025 — In a bold and forward-looking move to uplift Punjab’s agriculture sector, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a comprehensive package of reforms. These reforms are designed to lower farming costs, boost crop productivity, and enhance the well-being of farmers across the province.
🚜 Key Announcements for Farmers
To start with, CM Maryam introduced a range of initiatives aimed at empowering farmers:
🔹 Kissan Card Loan Limit Doubled
First and foremost, the government has increased the loan limit for farmers using the Kissan Card from RS 1.5 lakh to RS 3 lakh, providing greater financial flexibility.
🔹 95% Solar Tube Well Subsidy
In addition, to ease the burden of electricity costs, the government will offer a 95% subsidy on the solarization of agricultural tube wells.
🔹 Green Tractors Scheme
Moreover, starting next year, 20,000 subsidized green tractors will be distributed, enabling farmers to modernize their farming practices.
🔹 Rental Machinery Centres in Every Tehsil
Similarly, each tehsil in Punjab will receive a Rental Agricultural Machinery Centre. This will ensure that even small-scale farmers can access the latest equipment at affordable rates.
🔹 SMS & Helpline Support
Furthermore, a new helpline and SMS service will keep farmers—especially those without Kissan Cards—informed about government programs and important agricultural updates.
📉 Economic Relief Measures
🔹 Inflation Drops to Nearly 0%
Remarkably, inflation has decreased from 40% to almost 0%, which the Chief Minister described as a “miraculous turnaround.”
🔹 Lower Food Prices
-
Onions: reduced from RS 300 to RS 50 per kg
-
Flour and roti: now priced affordably to support low-income households
🌱 Support for Wheat Farmers
In terms of wheat production, the government is taking additional steps to directly benefit farmers:
🔹 Rs 5,000 Per Acre Subsidy
Instead of setting a minimum support price, farmers will receive a direct subsidy of Rs 5,000 per acre. This approach ensures immediate relief.
🔹 Cheaper Inputs
At the same time, the government is actively working to reduce the cost of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, diesel, and electricity for tube wells.
🔹 Loan Recovery Success
Notably, 85% of all Kissan Card loans have already been repaid, highlighting the program’s success and the trust of the farming community.
🌾 Looking Ahead: A Promising Future
Looking to the future, CM Maryam shared an optimistic outlook for Punjab’s agriculture sector:
🔹 Big Jump in Cotton Production
Thanks to early sowing efforts, cotton production is expected to increase by 30–40%, potentially reaching 6 million bales.
“I dream of a prosperous, happy farmer in every corner of Punjab,” said the Chief Minister.
🎁 Special Incentive for Students
