PM Shahbaz Sharif’s Diplomatic Push: Reaffirming Peace, Regional Cooperation, and Economic Growth
In a strong show of regional diplomacy, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, constructive dialogue, and robust economic partnerships during his official visit to Tehran. The visit marks a key leg in his four-nation diplomatic tour encompassing Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan, aimed at enhancing regional alliances and expressing gratitude to Pakistan’s partners amid recent tensions with India.
Reaching Out to India: A Call for Dialogue and Peace
During a joint press conference with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to engage in meaningful and constructive dialogue with India on all outstanding issues — particularly Kashmir, water rights, trade, and counterterrorism.
“We wanted peace. We want peace and we will work for peace in the region through talks on the table and resolve our outstanding issues including the Kashmir problem according to the United Nations Security Council resolutions, which were acknowledged even by the Indian Lok Sabha when Nehru was the Prime Minister of India,” PM Shahbaz declared.
While emphasizing Pakistan’s preference for dialogue, the Prime Minister also made it clear that the country would not hesitate to defend its sovereignty if provoked.
Strengthening Pakistan-Iran Relations
Describing Iran as his “second home,” PM Shahbaz expressed deep appreciation for Tehran’s support during the recent escalation with India and reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
“Pakistan and Iran share deep-rooted cultural and historical ties. We have made the decision to strengthen these relations even further through cooperation in diverse sectors,” he said.
The leaders held constructive discussions on multiple fronts — from border security and trade to regional stability and counter-terrorism. PM Shahbaz stressed the need to boost bilateral trade, setting an ambitious target of $10 billion. He noted that a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was under discussion and that enhanced cooperation between Pakistan’s Baluchistan and Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan provinces could bring mutual benefits and enhance regional security.

Solidarity with Palestine:
On the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Prime Minister voiced Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemning the Israeli aggression that has resulted in the deaths of over 54,000 civilians.
“It is high time that the international community uses its influence to bring lasting ceasefire in Palestine. Pakistan stands by its brothers and sisters in Iran to promote peace, progress and prosperity,” he stated.
Echoing his sentiments, Iranian President Pezeshkian condemned the silence of Western powers on the Gaza crisis and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to joint efforts with Pakistan within the framework of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Iranian President Welcomes Peaceful Initiatives
President Masoud Pezeshkian lauded the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India and advocated for dialogue to resolve regional tensions.
“For ensuring security and stability in the region, neighbouring countries should hold dialogue and have positive consultations among each other and with international partners,” President Pezeshkian remarked.
He emphasized Iran’s desire to collaborate with Pakistan on securing shared borders and combating terrorist threats, noting that peace and stability in Pakistan were vital to Iran’s interests as well.

A Warm Welcome in Tehran
Upon his arrival at Mehrabad Airport, PM Shahbaz and his delegation received a warm welcome from Iranian officials, including Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam. A ceremonial guard of honour awaited the Prime Minister at the Sa’dabad Palace, where he held official talks with President Pezeshkian.
The Prime Minister’s high-level delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and other senior ministers and aides.
Reflecting on Turkiye Visit
Earlier, in Turkey, PM Shahbaz had met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, expressing gratitude for Ankara’s steadfast support during the recent regional tensions. He hailed the Turkish people’s solidarity with Pakistan as a “source of great comfort and strength.”
He was seen off in Istanbul by high-level Turkish officials, including Defence Minister Yasar Guler, reflecting the warmth and strength of Pakistan-Turkey ties.

Throughout his diplomatic tour, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has advanced a clear message — Pakistan is committed to peace, mutual respect, and regional cooperation.
